Here's what I like: The founder is a beast! The idea is big! The market is huge!
There’s no question transportation is changing (even if slower than we were all sold). The idea that we still waste countless hours of our lives sitting in traffic being completely unproductive is insane. If we learned anything from the pandemic, it’s that time can always be better spent. Ivee is basically building towards that future; initially by creating a better passanger experience with ride share and eventually for self-driving (however far away that may be).
IMO it’s a matter of when, not if. And, for that reason, I’m a big believer in Ivee’s mission. If you need further proof — Ivee has seen incredible feedback in over 200k ride shares… which to me suggests FSD or not, people want to better use their time.
Here's what I don't love: Speaking of FSD (full self-driving) and pandemics; while I think ride shares are a perfect market entrance, without FSD I think the true power of Ivee is still restrained. Furthermore, will demand for more productive commutes be lower if fewer people are commuting less often?? IDK the answer to that, but my hunch is yes.
Another factor to consider is whether or not OEMs will simply build a similar experience into the cars before you buy them?? It is certainly possible — but, then again, it’s also possible that one of said OEMs would be a logical acquirer as well.
In the end, I’m less concerned with this given that most OEM carplay experiences are pretty shitty… But, it is worth noting.
Who should invest and why: If you frequently use ride sharing options, your investment will absolutely help bring Ivee-like experiences to the market sooner. Additionally, if you also believe the future of transportation is a massively untapped growth market — this is a great entry point.
Lastly, while our ratings mark the deal price as average, I would argue that is deceiving because price is typically aligned with revenue and time to profitability. However, in the case of Ivee… a major part of the testing and feedback loop is identifying profitable revenue channels, which doesn’t work in Ivee’s favor here.
So, I’d argue given the TAM, founding team and $10M price tag (w/ discount) this is about as good a deal as you’re going to find with this much upside 🤷♂️
As always, startup investing is super high-risk, anything can happen.
